43 Horseback Riders Explore Old Cattle
Trails in Pioneertown Area High-Desert

Forty-three horseback riders, men, women and two children, from 11 different riding clubs, attended the annual winter ride sponsored by Region 11 of the California State Horsemen’s Assn. last weekend at Pioneertown, in the high-desert country located on the eastern slopes of the San Bernardino Mountains in Yucca Valley, according to Region 11s Ride Chairman, Mrs. Marjorie Hambly of  San Bernardino.

Riding in the area is unusually interesting because of the striking rock formations surrounding one destination points of Chaparossa Springs. Other areas visited with the old Keyes title ranch area, Pipes Canyon country, Pinon Valley and Saddlerock Springs. Assistance in planning the rides to follow old cattle trails had been given to Mrs. Hambly previously by Deputy Sheriff Kendall J. Stone now of Apple Valley, but whose boyhood have been spent in the Pioneertown area, when his father and grandfather ran cattle there. Patches of snow contrasted with the yucca and cactus.
