County Still Has 12
One-Room Schoolhouses

The red is gone from the little red schoolhouse, but one-room schools are still with us–12 of them in San Bernardino County.

They’re strictly modern though. These single-teacher schools received the same service from the county school board as do the larger institutions, Including audio-visual education aids.

The county also has two emergency schools one with three teachers between Daggett and Newberry, and a single-teacher at Pioneertown in the Twentynine Palms area. Emergency schools are provided in areas in which the districts already has levied its maximum tax rate, and it spots too far away from established schools.
