“MISS PIONEER PASS” FINALISTS — One of five beauties representing as communities will compete Thursday at the Yucca Valley Golf Club for title of “Miss Pioneertown Pass” of 1964-65 Winner will receive all expenses to the sixth annual Pioneertown Pass Golf Challenge, Oct. 9-11, plus a trophy and a feature role in the 30-minute color and sound film, “The 19th Hole,” story of the 28=mile cattle and mining trail between the Hi-Desert and Bear Valley that serves as the fairway for the PPGC’s “19th Hole.” From left are “Mike” Wellman, Morongo Valley; Shelli Beede, Landers; Sharon O’Fee, Big Bear Lake; Marietta Salvador, Yucca Valley; and Debbie Mitchell, Joshua Tree.

YUCCA VALLEY — Five finalists from the July pioneer pass camera cavalcade match charms Thursday at the Yucca Valley Golf Club for the title of “Miss Pioneer Pass.”

“They are all bell ringers.” Commented Orval Warren, superintendence of the Big Bear Valley Park and Recreation District, which with the Yucca Valley Park and Recreation District, co-sponsors the camera cavalcade and the sixth annual Pioneer Pass Golf Challenge (PPGC), scheduled Oct. 9-11.

“Miss Pioneer Pass” will receive all expenses to the three-day golf event, plus a trophy. She will also win a  feature roll in the 30-minute Color and sound shorts, “the 19th hole.” The film is to relate the story of the 28-mile historic cattle and mining trail between the Hi-Desert and Bear Valley that serves as the fairway for the “World’s Longest and only 19th Hole.”

Color slides taken during the July 26 camera competition will be shown.

“We certainly wish to know how the new 1964-65 queen of the Pioneer Pass will photograph” said Ted Goldsmith of Big Bear Lake., co-chairman with Bill Cole, Yucca Valley, of the event.

Activities begin on the golf clubs “under the stars” patio at 7 p.m. with a dinner open to all by ticket donation.

Color slides taken by John W. Kell, APSA, of San Bernardino, and R. D. Meyer of Corona, two participants in the Pioneer Pass Camera Cavalcade, will preview the competing beauties for title.

Candidates in the finals and first to be seen from the screen are “Mike” Wellman, Morongo Valley; Shelli Beede, Landers; Sharon O’Fee, Big Bear Lake; Marietta Salvador, Yucca Valley; and Debbie Mitchell, Joshua Tree.

Following the photography, title aspirant will model bathing suits, then sports attire and presents a one-to-three-minute “chat” with the expected clubhouse throng.

To keep the “show on the road” during the judging and throughout the evening, will be “Bo and Benny,” the clowns who placed first in their division at the Old Miners Day party.

At the Pioneer Pass Golf Challenge awards table will be a sampling of trophies and facilities for first golfers to sign for the 19th hole three-day show in October.

Tickets for the affair will be available at the Big Bear Valley Chamber of Commerce and the Yucca Valley Chamber of Commerce, the Yucca Valley Golf Club and the Moonridge Golf and Mountain Club, or the offices of the Big Bear Valley Park and Recreation District and the Yucca Valley Parks and Recreation District.

“Title aspirants will also be carrying tickets.” Cole and Goldsmith reminded.
