Old West Horse Race Set For Pioneertown

The sound of thundering hooves will once again be heard on Pioneertown’s “Mane” Street every weekend starting July 2, 3 and 4.

These jackpot horse races and the featured “event in community annual fairs.

Every man who things his horse is the fastest in the world, is asked to participate.

Quarter mile long dirt-surface Mane Street has been leveled and carefully prepared for the race. John Hollinger will sign the riders in for the first race which begins at 1 p.m. on July 2.

Mane Street is wide enough for about six horses to compete in the races. Three or four races will be held each day of the weekend. A record will be kept of the winners, and their times, and a championship race will be held periodically to decide who really owns the “fastest horse in the West.”

Riding groups, Equestrian Trail corrals, Sheriff Posses, Mounted Police and Western wear suppliers from throughout Southern California are expected to be in Pioneertown for the holiday event. Free trailer and camping space is available adjacent to town, and stables and boarding facilities are also available.
