The Indianapolis Star – Tue Jul 30 1957

FOLLOWING the trip into Joshua Tree National Monument, we drove to Pioneertown, near Yucca Valley. This is a collection of ancient buildings–supposedly a century old.

The pioneer town supposedly still is used on occasion by movie camera crews as background for Westerns.

But I have my doubts. The village seems to have fallen for modern inventions. For instance, the old corral has a couple of wornout bathtubs for watering troughs.

And such old log structures as “Maggie’s Feed Store, estab. 1848,” and “Nell’s Ice Cream Palace,” are topped by modern television aerials.

There are several eating places, hostesses and all, of a type familiar to any lover of TV Westerns.
