Pioneertown RV park plan denied
SAN BERNARDINO – County supervisors, siding with a group of Pioneertown residents, have decided that a sparsely settled desert area near that community is an inappropriate place for a recreation vehicle park.
The county board rejected an appeal by Milton Knoefler of Riverside seeking reversal of the Planning Commission’s denial of this plan for a 49-space RV park on 20 acres on both sides of Keys Road about a quarter of a mile south of Pipes Road.
County Board Chairman James Mayfield, leading the action, said his main concern was with the fire hazards such a development could pose. He agreed with protesting property owners that the density of the project would be incompatible with other development in the area.
Louise Pekarovich submitted a protest petition signed by 28 are residents and said fears had been aroused among them by a report that he park would be used as a narcotic rehabilitation center.
Bill Warner, engineer for Knoefler, denied there was any such plan and contended the park would be designed and operated in ways that would satisfy all concerns about fire hazards, dust nuisances, water pollution and traffic problems on dirt roads leading to the side.
