Pioneertown Bought by Two Auto Dealers

SAN BERNARDINO. Jan 22.
Pioneertown, San Bernardino County’s Old West showplace, has been sold for $80,400 to two Los Angeles automobile dealers.

Sale of the town and it’s surrounding 20,000 acres was handled at a public auction at the County Courthouse here by the Security Title Insurance Co.

Security Title was holder of a trust deed to the property for a $60,000 loan made in 1946 to Fletcher Jones and William Murphy, automobile dealers who also were directors on the board of Pioneertown, Inc.

After Jones and Murphy gave notice of default last June, interest had pushed the loan total to approximately $80,000 and the property was slated for auction Dec. 17.

However, attorneys for Pioneertown Studio Locations, Inc., held up the auction by a request its 25-year lease on the property be cleared.

This done, the auction was held and the property sold.
