Plans Made for Old Miner Event

Plans for the four-day celebration of Old Minerโ€™s Days at Big Bear Lake, Aug. 5-8, are well under way, according to Bill Snyder, president of the Old Minerโ€™s Association.

The kickoff event, the Clementine Fashion Show, will be held Sunday, at the Robinhood Dinner House at 2:30 p.m. Winners in the Clementine Contest will be chosen.

Wednesday, July 28, the Clementine Dance will be held at 8 p.m. at the Sugar Shack in Big Bear Lake. Winners of the Clementine Contest will be presented.

Aug. 4 and 5, Pioneertown is planning many activities including hayrides, dances and shootouts. The Wild Burro Race starts from there at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 5.

The noon stop of the burrow wranglers will be the Copper Room at the Yucca Valley airport where lunch will be served by the Yucca Valley Elks Club. Lucerne Valley, the first nightโ€™s stop, will roll out the red carpet for wranglers and visitors.

In Big Bear Lake that same evening the Big Bear Players will present the first showing of  โ€œDeadwood Dickโ€ at Big Bear Lake Womenโ€™s Club. Curtain time is 8:30 p.m. the โ€œmellerdrammerโ€ will be shown Aug. 5, 6 and 7.

On Friday, the second leg of the burro race will begin in Lucerne Valley at 9 a.m., winding up at the Shay Ranch in Big Bear City where a steak fry will de held,

Activities beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Saturday, Aug.7, the last leg Fawnskin is planning evening of the burro race from the Shay Ranch to the Elks Lodge in Big Bear Lake Village will be held. Burros and wranglers leave the ranch at 9 a.m.and are expected to start arriving at the Elks Club about 10 a.m.

At 1 p.m. a leather slap (fast draw) contest will be held at Snow Summit. A log sawing contest at the elementary school and childrenโ€™s events at Meadow Park are also planned.

Saturday afternoon the burro race winners will be a โ€œhangingโ€ followed by the judging of the Whiskerino contest.

Sunday, Aug.8, is the day of the big parade in Big Bear Lake Village. The parade starts at 1 p.m. which should give all visitors ample time to enjoy the barbecue at the Elks Club from noon on.

At 3 p.m. the parade awards will be given and the winner of the Honda will be announced.

During Old Minersโ€™ Days the Bear Valley Art Assn. will put on an exhibit at the high school.
