Preliminary sales reports received by Benton Leflon, head of the California Golden Empire, Indicate that 50 percent of the available lots developed to date in the first phase of this 30-square-mile planned community has already been sold on a reservation basis—less than 90 days after the development was announced!

Pioneertown, in the "high desert" above Palm Springs, got its start as a permanent set for cowboy-western movies. About 150 were filmed there, including such classics as "Annie Oakley," "The Cisco Kid" and the Hopalong Cassidy" series.
